Ambush @ JEM
Food review:
Who says
that you have to fly all the way to Europe to get the taste? Singapore being a
multi-racial country, we are fortunate to have restaurants like Ambush who
provide Europe cuisine to stop the torture of 16 or more hours of flight, and
for people like me who haven’t been to Europe before!
At Ambush, Everyone Gets A Little Taste of Europe
To say getting a little taste of Europe, I
would say, getting a little taste of almost every parts of Europe. They only
use the freshest ingredients, choose from tantalizing, mussels from Belgium,
scrumptious paella from Spain, juicy sausages from Germany and delectable pasta
from Italy!
Personally
I think that ambiance is pretty important for a restaurant, as it determine
your mood while enjoying your meal. In Ambush in JEM, has a feeling of Western
café as it uses pastel colored and wooden floor titles and furniture which
makes you feel so relax and cozy.
Also in
Ambush, it’s pretty clean and the stuffs are really super friendly and
mannered, as when you are at your seat, they will ask whether you want cold or
warm water. Also, they will explain the dishes if you ask.
Really
thanks to openrice Singapore for the food tasting invite :}!
Beverage:
Ambush has
plenty of different types of drinks, from the usual soda and juices to their
specialty fizzy mocktail and punch. And for coffee and tea lovers, they also
have their own gourmet coffee and tea, with the special honey ginger chai
latte!
I ordered
Shirley’s temple- fizzy mocktail and punch. It really refreshing and the taste
of cherry aren't lacking. Always, I ordered blue coral but I think it has
replace that favorite fizzy mocktail of mine! As, it really taste refreshing
even without mint, and it isn’t really sweet with that soda taste! It has a
little sweet and sour taste which makes you crave for more when you start
drinking a slip of it.
Shirley's Temple- $5.90
Oktoberfest!
Oktoberfest
is the world’s largest fair held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a
16-day festival running from late September to the first weekend in October
with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every
year. To the locals, it is not called Oktoberfest, but die Wies’n, after the colloquial
name of the fairgrounds themselves.
~Travel to Germany~
What’s come
to your mind when you thought of Germany cuisine? Sausages and beer! Roasted
Pork Knuckle, a dish that the beer can’t survive with!
Ambush’s
Roasted Pork Knuckle has thick pork meat and crispy skin, however it is a
little dry for the meat which is why it is perfect for beer as the beer will give
moisture to the dry meat. Do not worry if you don’t drink, as Ambush will
provide a side dish of light brown sauce and mashed potato is served together
with the pork knuckle and I can say that the brown sauce goes perfect with the
dry meat, as the sauce slip in the dry meat. Every bite of it makes you feel
that the sauce is lingering around the meat, giving it moisture and making the
meat tenderer.
As for the
crispy skin, it is actually quite thick, so it will be hard to cut, but no
worries for your strong teeth as it is easy to chew and really crispy!!
Roasted Pork Knuckle [half] ($18.00)
Together with the pork knuckle
Continue living in Germany, sausages are a MUST ! Even their vending machine have Sausages ! WHY SINGAPORE NO HAVE?!?!?!?
Anyway, their sausages are FREAKING delicious please, how I wish I could eat it like NOW ! Heehee. The sausages are really fat and when you bite, it has the split open feeling. *ahem* I eat like a lady okay. And this dish is Berlin's star pan seared bratwurst (a typical type of sausage found in Germany) which is perfectly matched with the brown sauce !
Currywrust - $16.50
Chicken Gordon Bleu - $18.50
In the seafood world, what do we always expect? Freshness of the seafood. There is no doubt that seafood love Spainish or I should say it another way round? Spain is famous of their seafood rice and I personally believe that Ambush did a great job. The seafood (white clams, mussels, queen scallop and prawns) are really fresh and taste right with the tomato rice together with the sliced bacon and sausages. Even there are so many ingredients in just a "simpy" rice dish, but those taste fit perfectly for each other. Other than the tomatoes taste is a little strong but still it taste nice !
Signature Dish Ambush’s Spanish Paella priced at S$14.20
Squid Ink pasta are always something that people are not willing to give it a try, simply because it's totally black. And looks are of course important. However, you will be totally surprise by its taste and what people always say 'do not judge a book by its cover'. This fit perfectly for the squid Ink spaghetti ! Squid link sauce actually make the pasta taste a little sweet together with the clams. And actually the pasta isn't as oily as it seen in the picture, it's the squid ink sauce which give that oily look. But nevertheless, it's delicious and teeth staining ! Hahaha ! Not a first date dish man ladies !
Baby Scallop and Flying Fish Roe with Squid Ink Sauce (S$14.80)
If you ain't a lamb person, this might not suit your liking. As the lamb obviously still have the lamb-like tasting. But if you are a lamb person, this might be suitable for you ! It's a pan grilled dish ! Lamb are usually hard to chew or even cut off from the rest of the big steak, but this dish will doubt you that it's a lamb ! As the meat is soooo tender !
Char Grilled Lamb Saddle Steak (230g, Bone-in) - $22.80
Crispy Chicken and Seaweed - Aglio Olio style ($13.00)
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE !!!!!
Hahahas, yes, I go gaga whenever I saw this dish !! A roasted garlic and herb rubbed chicken legs that has a thin layer of cripy skin with that thick tender meat ! And I'm not kidding when I said thick ! Even thought there is garlic, but the taste of the chicken is full of the fresh herb and the creamy mushroom sauce ! OMO, I FEEL HUNGRY NOW. LOL
Poulet Roti - $17.20
Desserts:
Desserts are almost everyone's favourite and of course it's mine ! Any nice place for some pastries, you know it's always good to intro me ! haahhas !
Molten Chocolate Brownie ($6.80)
Tiramisu, I think the chocolate powder above it way too much, which = to choking, hahahs. But the cake at the bottom is niceee~ And the correct way to eat this is using the biscuit provided and scoop the tiramisu :}
Tiramisu ($6.80)
Apple crisp is like the favourite among all those chocolaty desserts ! It has whipped cream, ice cream and of course the apple crisp. And perhaps is because all are chocolate desserts while this is stand out for all those dishes.
The apple crisp is like a pie, having thin crust at the side, while apple in the middle. And trust me, the apple are like real apple, while add on the crisp-ness in the pie. Also, with those sweet caramel :> Nom nom
Apple Crisp ($6.80)
Lastly, a lava cake, I haven't tried one before but this is quite disappointing as the lava didn't really flow out, and I guess it is due to a slight over bake :( But nonetheless, it taste alright.
Chocolate Lava Souffle ($8.80)
